POD-DEIM Model Order Reduction in the Case of Damaging RC Structures Subjected to Earthquakes

Résumé

Earthquake engineering hybrid testing requires the use of efficient nonlinear Hyper Reduced Order Models (HROMs) that can be run in real time. To tackle this problem, a Proper Orthogonal Decomposition (POD) Unassembled Discrete Empirical Interpolation Method (UDEIM) is here associated to a non-iterative α-Operator Splitting (OS) time integration scheme to accelerate dynamic analyses on a two-storey reinforced concrete structure made of nonlinear multifibre beam elements. In this work, the seismic hazard is modelled by a set of twelve earthquakes fitting the same design spectrum. Three ground motions are used to compute snapshots, while the responses related to the nine others are approximated using a HROM. Results showed that using such an approach makes it possible to save 87% of the online CPU time with a strain energy error of less than 0.6% compared to the full order model.
